The long-awaited sequel to Godzilla Minus One (released back in 2023) is drawing closer. One Media dropped the newest trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero on August 26th, 2026. All I can say is, fans just like myself, are extremely excited to see the beloved Kaiju again. The previous film was monumental in its storytelling as well as its production. In fact, it was the first Godzilla film and non-English film to win “Best Visual Effects” at the 96th Academy Awards.
From the original score all the way to the sneak peek behind the scenes, this trailer delivers another sucker punch to fans of the franchise. I have no shame in admitting I’m sucker punched, too.
Why This Film is Exciting to Me
Here’s the thing about me. I LOVE monster movies. Serious ones, goofy ones, it doesn’t matter. I liked the original Godzilla (1954). I’m going to be real with you; I don’t watch creature features for the stories. I just watch them for the cool monsters. I never expect some grade A storytelling from this franchise. Frankly, the closest it’s ever gotten for me to MAYBE care for the characters was Gareth Edward’s Godzilla (2014). Mainly because it had Aaron Taylor Johnson in it (don’t judge). But even so, the human characters were just so boring. Too many people, not enough Godzilla stomping on MUTOs.
Godzilla Minus One though…CHANGED EVERYTHING. The film was so incredibly human with its unique POV and setting. It was the first Godzilla film where I didn’t actually WANT to see the King of Monsters destroy anything. Minus One actually makes you care for the people. So, when I saw this trailer, I felt excitement, yes, but also ANXIETY. I’m ready to endure another emotional roller coaster. Kind of…I’m not sure, since the last one did make me actually cry.
