Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Reveals Classic Roster

I promise I’m not trying to be on a Godzilla kick… 2026 just happens to be an exciting year for the King of Monsters! There is going to be a remaster of a classic Godzilla melee game from the early 2000s.

The original Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee was developed by Pipeworks and published by Atari in 2002 on the GameCube and Xbox. Sad to say, I’ve never played this myself. I DO remember seeing it in my local GameCrazy (definitely exposing my age here). These types of brawling games never interested me. Not because I thought they were boring!

It’s because I suck at them…Even my love of monsters wasn’t enough for me to give it a shot as a kid. I’m a grown woman now, so I can admit when I’m beat. This trailer has sold me on the game.

What the Roster Looks Like (besides Godzilla himself)

First thing’s first: the game looks crisp! Graphics aren’t everything for me, but the game looks really nice without taking away from the original charm. The newest trailer shows off the roster of monsters you can choose from. There are 12 total Kaiju you can play, however, the trailer showcases just 9 from the roster:

  • Rodan
  • Mechagodzilla
  • Gigan
  • Anguirus
  • Megalon
  • Mecha-King Ghidorah
  • Destroyah
  • Ghidorah
  • Godzilla

The Vortaak Attack!

Despite the simplicity of the game, it DOES have a story. An alien species known as the Vortaak declares they have taken control over all the monsters on Earth. If Earth doesn’t surrender, they use those monsters to destroy all the major cities. However, one of those monster’s breaks free (which is your chosen character) and goes on the defense.

That’s basically it for the story. It’s good to note that there is a sequel to the original, Godzilla: Save the Earth. The Vortaak appear in that once more. I’m assuming depending on how well received this remaster does, perhaps we can expect a remaster of that one as well.

The demo releases on October 15th, 2026. I’ll definitely check it out then.
